How to build a great resume "Profile"
Overview/What You Will Learn
Use the top third of the resume to grab attention and sell yourself in a convincing way. Show what you offer in a way that can be read in 7 to 10 seconds. Make the reader stop and say “this person has what we are looking for.”
- Write a headline in 1 or 2 lines that provides focus to the resume.
- Support headline with 4-5 keys areas, bulleted.
- Make it point where you are going, not where you have been.
- State qualities and expertise you have that are needed for the next role.
- Avoid bland statements about your “objective.”
- Avoid writing in long paragraphs; use small chunks of information and make the point in 2 or 3 lines.
- Avoid clichés:
- For example, if you want to say “outstanding oral and writing communication skills,” find a way to say it in a unique or fresh way by stating WHO your audience is and how your skills can help the business.
- Don’t sound like everyone else.
